Plans and Realizations

Jon woke the next morning to find breakfast sitting on the bedside table.  Bluegrass was already up and eating and so Jon ate too.

       "This is the best..."

"Yeah," Bluegrass said guessing what Jon was going to say.  "It is good ain't it?  The General said one of them "Other" people made it this morning.  Something about Bloodsuckers and needin' to do somethin' all night.  I ain't figured that out.  Anyway, he said we could walk around after we eat just not to go off the property."

Jon nodded and ate the first full meal he'd had in a while and then they left the room.

"So, who do you think this 'God' is?" Bluegrass asked.

"Didn't Darius say his name last night?  Ares."

"Ares is a myth Skip," Bluegrass said.

"Do we know that for sure?"  Jon countered.  This mass world destruction had him re evaluating his ideals.  He couldn't say for sure that any God did not exist now.  And Ares apparently answered Darius' prayers and questions so who was he to argue?  Bluegrass was quiet as they walked though this compound where there was a lot of activity going on.  A man who looked to be about 30 was chanting something and making things float.  Jon had heard of mutants but they didn't have to chant to use their powers.  The man waved to them cheerfully though. Jon had no idea why but he suspected everyone here knew who they were.

"Good morning," a voice spoke from behind.  Jon turned and almost fell on his ass in shock.  The young man who stood before him he recognized as Blade but he looked a little softer now than he had last night.  Jon noticed he only carried two knives and a sword right now.

"We hope you two slept well.  Come on, Dad is ready to start the meeting.  Later Ethan," he said to the man who was chanting.  The man waved as they walked to a big room set p for a battle planning meeting.

"First order of business," The General said when everyone was seated, "is to get more people in on this.  We need all kinds of thoughts and minds to make this work."

Jon watched as he made a list on a piece of paper and gave it to the girl with the braid.

"Ask your Uncle Connor to call these people please?  We'll need them for the next meeting." He said and turned back to Jon and Bluegrass and Blade and Vicious.

"Second order of business.  What do we know of Mon*Star?  That is the key to defeating your enemy.  First knowing him."

"We know he's got a power source somewhere," Bluegrass said.  "We know he'll hurt and kill our people."

"Then we hurt and kill his," a new voice said.  Jon and Bluegrass turned and saw a man dressed in leather pants and a velvet shirt.

"I'm here Darius.  You wanted either me or Angel here and Angel is with Spike so..."

"Thank you Angelus," The General said.  "And you're right.  That is the second thing, You must get over your reluctance to kill and maim and injure his people.  We are more hardened than you so we do this easier but tell me, if it was him or you Jon, who would you pick?"

Jon knew the answer to that.  He'd pick himself much as he was sure Bluegrass would.

"So, what do we need now?"  Came the voice of Death.  Darius chuckled.

"We need to fill this team out.  They have an optimist in Jon, the Cowboy in Bluegrass? Blade and Vicious are the no holds barred members of the team.  They can and will do anything to make sure you win without sacrificing any of you.  You need a tactician, a math whiz which we have one for you, and Marksman, and Fort holder, a weapons maker which Blade and Vicious can do but won't have time for.  Maybe you can borrow Jason and Billy as well, I don't know.  We need Connor here though.

Jon nodded not knowing who these people were but figuring The General knew more about this than he did.  As evidenced by Mon*Star losing every time he met this man in battle.

"You will also need a magic user, a Psi power and a Strategist.  Some you need to find in your files.  Also, if at all possible, I want Commander Stargazer found and Returned.  He's integral to this."

"Did Ares tell ya that?" Bluegrass asked almost but not quite snidely.

"As a matter of fact, yes, I did," another voice said, this one form nowhere.  The General laughed lightly.

"I'd say he says we don't need infighting.  You came to us to seek two of our numbers aid.  Don't dare insult our beliefs or our Gods."

Jon nodded and kicked Bluegrass hard under the table.  So far, nothing had been said about them being Christian and the General seemed quite competent in what he did so Jon figured he would heed his suggestions.

"We've asked Connor here to help find you people who will be ideal for this team.  He is our seeker since the true Seeker is helping his father in the underworld sort the dead and find souls that get lost.  He's found a girl named Aurora who goes by the name Star in the fight rings.  You'll be able to meet her in a few days.  You need to learn to work with my two children first."

Jon nodded and watched as Darius drew up some maps to send some teams out.  The General, as he was called, really did know what he was doing in planning things.  As well as leading Jon found out later that night.

This man was not afraid to do things himself.  Jon watched him sort the things they'd found tonight with skill and efficiency before returning to his war room to plan more things to help the people of earth.

Maybe, when Mon*Star was dealt with, maybe Jon would come back here and help the general with these things.  It was a worthwhile thing to do.  Darius did not steal for its own sake but for the sake of those in need.  Jon smiled thinking he'd be a good person to serve under.  Maybe he'd come back when all this was done.  Maybe...
