The Gathering

Jon landed on his ass as Blade kicked his feet out from under him again.  Vicious was putting BG on the ground across the room and they were being watched by The General who wanted to be sure everything was going smoothly.  Jon had been told this was a reeducation and some part of him knew they needed it.  Darius as not kidding about how hard they fought and that they would use the enemy's methods when needed.

Jon had seen that last night when Darius and the band that went out to raid the rich and corrupted.  Darius had blown the target's car sky high and that had been the diversion.  Then he'd broken the bones of the men guarding the food stores that man had.  It disgusted Jon he hoarded that much.

"Pay Attention!" Jon heard before he was on his ass again.  This time it wasn't Blade who stood over him, rather it was Death.

"Watch what you're doing boy," Death growled.  "You didn't even notice when Blade and I switched places did you?  I could have killed you there."

Jon had realized after last night that most of these people were older than anyone thought.  Jon had sat in on a meeting last night and he heard Death ask the General about a battle plan from a war fought more than 1,000 years ago and The General had responded:

"That didn't work then either Death.  I tried it remember?"

That told Jon The General was far older than he had realized.  but it reassured him.  These people did know what they were doing.

"Break," The General's voice called from across the room.  "The rest of your team is here."

Jon walked over to the group by the door in a daze.  They looked young but something told him not to judge them by looks.

Jon and BG showered and they found themselves being led to the War Room as Jon had taken to calling Darius' battle planning place.  They sat where they had been sitting the times they'd been here in the week since they'd arrived.

Well," Darius said sitting at the head of the table.  "I've gotten your Psi, your Tech, your mathematician, your planner and your techie's mate will be going with you.  You've met Angelus, Jon," Darius said.  "He's going as the man who can think evil.  With him go Angel and Spike.  Spike is a top fighter, as is Angel.  Angel will use edged weapons as much as Angelus will.  Spike prefers bare-knuckle brawling.  Angelus can also extract information if the person you are questioning is reluctant to talk.  Do not, under any circumstances, interfere with his methods.  They work and in the old days what he does now would have been considered mild."

Jon nodded and wrote notes down.  He'd figured out what Angelus, Spike and Angel were from what they drank.  If Angelus could get information, they would allow it.

"This is Billy, your tech," Darius introduced a slight blond teenagerish looking young man.  His eyes however were much older.

"Billy can build literally anything.  He is also a very powerful Psi and a Shadow Walker.  His primary function however is builder.  His mate is Jason.  Jason is a very powerful fighter/Martial Artist.  Where Billy goes, Jason follows."

Jon wrote down notes on them too.  He knew Jason had heightened senses as well and that was one reason Billy was always with him.  The other was that they were all but married.

"Next is a young man from the Planet Of the Mimes which Mon*Star conquered.  His name is pretty much unpronounceable even to Olympians so we call him The Kidd.  He is your math whiz and logician. There is literally no math problem this boy cannot solve."

Jon took more notes and looked at the others in the room.

"This is Aurora, I told you about her," Darius said.  "She is another fighter.  You will need them up there.  Be glad for the immortal and vampire members of your team.  Her manager is Steven Landon.  He's brought her here for two reasons, one is to save the world.  The other being what matters to most Street Fighters.  Money.  Lord Hades, God of Wealth and the Dead and Reborn has offered to pay any who want it for this."

Jon nodded and wrote that down making notes of the motivations for each person he wasn't sure about.

"Next is Derek Rayne.  He's your psychic.  Yes, he looks about 43.  In reality he's older but that's besides the point.  he's trained his natural psychic talents to come on demand and to come clear.  Derek is also a demon Slayer.  I don't know if there are any of those in Limbo but I want all bases covered.  You have two magic users.  One is a man named Hotwing.  He's a hybrid from a planet Mon*Star has his sights set on for it's power and the other is Amy Madison.  She's a very powerful witch."

    Jon nodded taking more notes.

"Now, Darius said, "You all need to learn each other's personalities.  You leave for limbo in the morning because we don't have time for the normal acclimation periods.  All I ask of you all is that you not allow rivalry to mess up your mission.  When you aren't fighting the mob I don't have time to care about what you do. But when you are, do not fight amongst yourselves.  I haven't the time nor the patience to treat you as children.  Clear?"

Everyone looked at him knowing he wasn't kidding he hadn't said what would happen if they didn't obey him in this but the look in his eyes promised something ominous.

Jon and his new team waited for a dismissal and then headed off to talk to each other.  He had a feeling that after the Mob was initially defeated, there would be trouble between one or more of them.  But that was a worry for another day.  Now they all needed some rest before the real fight began tomorrow.

Tomorrow was looking like the start of a new battle in this war and this time Jon would be on the front lines of it.
