Jewels of the Hawks

"Are we ready?"
"Yeah, she's here."
The two soldiers of the UESC looked upon the dark blue figure coming towards them. One of them escorted it to the space shuttle in the hanger. "I never thought things would get so bad in Limbo galaxy," the blue figure said.
"Well, it has been what, twelve years since we dispatched the small troop of SilverHawks?" The soldier replied. "Uh, yeah, anyway, you'll be a perfect addition to their ranks."
"I'm sure I will be," the figure answered. Her blue armor shone like a jewel. "Is my cargo aboard as well?"
"Yes, it is. Good luck, Corporal." The soldier saluted as he exited the shuttle. As the shuttle took off into space, the two soldiers looked on into the sky. You're gonna need it, the soldier who escorted her thought.
"Ya think she could really do it?" the second soldier asked. "I mean, we both know she's good in combat situations, but we're talking about Mon*Star and his mob, for Pete's sake!"
"If anyone can get the best of that bunch, I'm sure she can."
"Why do you think they call her 'Sapphire'?"
"It's because of her armor. Both it and those two ice cubes she calls eyes that shine like the jewel she was named for."
"And she's going off, as a SilverHawk."
"The mob better watch out when she comes to town! By the way, what was that cargo they loaded?"
"A new spy, much like the Tallyhawk model, only Corporal Sapphire built it herself."
"Combat specialist and engineering expert? Whoa...."
"Yeah, I know."
"And you're worried about..?"
"Just save it, okay? We got paper work due at 0800 hours."
"Yes, sir!" The two soldiers then left the hanger, wondering the fate of Limbo and the addition to the SilverHawk team.
In Limbo galaxy, Commander Stargazer soon received a call from Earth. "Earth Command to Hawk Haven!" the radio called. "Earth Command to Hawk Haven, do you read?"
"Stargazer here," the commander replied. "I read you, over."
"Ah, Stargazer," the voice said. "I noticed you needed more SilverHawks and I'm just letting you know we're sending a new volunteer right now."
"Another one?" Stargazer couldn't believe what he had just heard. Limbo hasn't had a new SilverHawk since Hotwing, and that was a long time ago. "Is it an ex-Marine?" Stargazer asked.
"Actually," the voice replied. "A current one who signed on to the SilverHawk project. Her stats are extraordinary, Commander. She's been in several combat situations, is an expert engineer and computer expert, and she has a surprise for our friend Tallyhawk."
"Oh, really? Does this new volunteer have a name?"
"I'm not sure of her real name, but her call sign's Sapphire. You'll see why when you meet her."
"When can I expect the new recruit to arrive at Hawk Haven?"
"Sometime today. Earth out."
The radio went silent as Stargazer sat to let the news sink into his half-metal skull. A new SilverHawk. This was news indeed. As he left his office to inform the other SilverHawks, Stargazer began to feel a chill. He shrugged it off, and failed to notice the drifting Skyshadow leaving Hawk Haven to inform its dark master the news.
The shuttle soon entered Limbo galaxy. The new recruit of the SilverHawk team looked at the space. It was beautiful. Suddenly, the shuttle began to rock. Corporal Sapphire made her way to the pilot's den and asked what was happening. "It's the Mob!" the pilot cried as Sapphire looked to see about two space vehicles with three Mob members in each limo.
Do they fear a new recruit so bad that they'll send all they've got against me? Sapphire thought. She turned to the pilot. "Take us out," she ordered. "Try and maneuver around their fire."
"Yes, Corporal," the pilot replied as Sapphire went straight to the cargo bay. She soon found a small metal box containing her cargo. As she opened it, a large snoring parrot was revealed. The parrot was partly metal, partly real, just like its creator.
"Wake up, Chatterbox," Sapphire said poking at the parrot.
"Are we there yet?" the parrot yawned. He brushed Sapphire's hand away with his wing. "Sapphire, quit poking me."
"We have no time for small talk, Chatterbox," Sapphire explained. "The Mob's attacking."
"WHAT?!?" Chatterbox cried. He flew up to Sapphire. "Why didn't you say so?! Where are we?!"
"We're still in space," Sapphire replied. "I'm going to distract the Mob."
"While the shuttle's moving?!"
"I'll admit it's a long shot, but it's all we got."
"And where do I come in?" Chatterbox watched as Sapphire opened the cargo bay doors.
"I need you to fly to Hawk Haven and tell them what's happened," Sapphire said. "This is in case the Mob gets the better of me."
"Just how in the world am I going to find it?!"
"You'll find it, Chatterbox," Sapphire said. "I've downloaded its location into your circuits before we left."
"But you against the Mob? What if--"
"I have to do this." Sapphire already had her visor down and was heading out into space. Chatterbox followed and looked at her. "Go!" she cried as Chatterbox flew off into space, leaving Sapphire to face the Mob alone.
Sapphire flew out of the shuttle on silver-blue wings as the Mob in the Limbo Limos stared deviously. "Well, well," sneered Hardware. "What do we have here?"
"It looks like a new player in the game," Poker Face replied.
"I'll clip those little wings off that rookie!" called Buzz Saw.
"grunt" muttered Mumbo Jumbo. The two Limos headed towards Sapphire.
"You want me?" Sapphire called. "Come and get me!" She immediately opened laser fire at the oncoming attackers, who managed to dodge them, barely.
"Not bad," commented Hardware. "But try this on for size!" He unleashed a laser fire from the Limo, which Sapphire managed to dodge.
"You'll have to try harder than that to fry me!" Sapphire cried as she continued her defense, praying that Chatterbox would reach in the cavalry in time.
Chatterbox flew as though it was a million miles. He thought he'd never reach Hawk Haven in time. "Ay, Cairumba!" he thought. "The Mob's attacking the ship, Sapphire's in danger and I'm nowhere near Hawk Haven! Oh, we're lucky Mon*Star himself didn't attack because if he--" Chatterbox suddenly saw a glimpse of silver. He flew in close and saw a hawk, partly metal, partly real. "It must be TallyHawk!" Chatterbox thought. He went towards the metal hawk. "Hey, TallyHawk!" he cried. "Listen, I need you to record a message." TallyHawk only screeched. "Yes, a message! There's no time to explain! I need a message to Hawk Haven delivered ASAP! Can you do it?! A life is in danger!" TallyHawk looked at the strange bird, uncertain of what to do. Finally, he nodded and Chatterbox began his message.
At Hawk Haven, Stargazer soon received a message from TallyHawk. After summoning the other SilverHawks, he activated the message. The screen showed a partly metal, partly real parrot. "Hola, SilverHawks!" the parrot said in a high male voice rich in a Spanish accent. "I am the prototype spy bird from UESC. Codename: Chatterbox. I was to arrive at Hawk Haven alongside your new recruit, Corporal Sapphire. But our ship is being attacked by the Mob, Sapphire's trying to hold them off, and she sent me to try and reach Hawk Haven and alert you! Unfortunately, I'm too worried about my creator to make the long trip, and I thank God I flew into TallyHawk when I did! So, we're going to coordinates 554 by 732 and try to help Sapphire! If you're listening, and I know you are, HELP!!!!" The screen went blank. The SilverHawks were confused about the message.
"Now that you mention it," Stargazer said. "That new recruit was supposed to be here an hour ago."
"How do you know we can trust this message, sir?" Quicksilver asked. "It could be a trap."
"I know, Lieutenant," Stargazer replied. "But I have a gut feeling something's wrong out there. Get the Mirage and investigate that message."
"Aye, aye, sir!" The SilverHawks replied as they went off on their latest mission.
Sapphire seemed to be holding her own well against the four Mobsters. She was a tough girl and she allowed nothing to stand in her way. But the odds were looking grim as the Mobsters gained their own cavalry. Sapphire turned to see Mon*Star himself coming their way. Sapphire then prepared herself for the biggest fight of her life.
"So," the Planet Master hissed. "You're that new SilverHawk sent by Earth."
"You got that right!" Sapphire replied. She then shot at the Planet Master, just so it skidded at his face. "The name is Sapphire. Remember it!"
"Very brave for a rookie."
"Unless you decide wisely and back off, this rookie will soon take out your other eye."
"You got spunk. I like that." A one-on-one match between Sapphire and Mon*Star soon erupted.
"Sheesh!" Chatterbox cried as he and TallyHawk flew off. They needed to reach the shuttle as soon as they could, and time was running out. "If I knew this was going to happen, I'd make sure to bring more firepower! Oh, I told Sapphire I needed weapons, but did she listen? NO! Why she bothered to bring me along, I don't know! For some odd reason, she thinks I'd be important just as I am." TallyHawk only screeched in reply. "What do mean 'I have a big beak?!' At least I have the ability to talk!" The two birds continued flying. "Everybody's a critic." Chatterbox mumbled.
The two birds finally got to the fight. Chatterbox looked in horror as Sapphire was battling Mon*Star, the other Mobsters watching. "Holy Guacamole!" he cried. "Mon*Star! Oh, just when I thought things couldn't get any worse!" TallyHawk gave a screech as he saw the Mirage coming their way. Chatterbox seemed relieved, but was still worried. "Oh, now they get here!" he commented.
"The SilverHawks!" Buzz Saw cried.
"What do you want us to do, Boss?" Hardware asked.
Hearing that, Chatterbox got an idea. "Return to Brim Star." Chatterbox bellowed, making a perfect imitation of the Planet Master's voice. "I'll deal with these tin turkeys!"
"Are you sure, Boss?" Poker Face questioned.
"You have a problem, Poker Face?" Chatterbox continued. He had to control himself from laughing at the robot's scared expression. "Then get going!" The two limos sped away, leaving Mon*Star all alone.
"WHAT?!" Mon*Star cried as he saw his men leaving. "Where do you think you boys are going?!"
"You told us to leave, Planet Master," Buzz Saw explained.
"I did no such thing!" Fortunately, Chatterbox's distraction gave the Mirage time to launch the four SilverHawks and attack. Refusing to risk getting caught, the Mob left. "This isn't over, SilverHawk!" Mon*Star shouted to Sapphire. "I'll be back!"
"And I'll be waiting." Sapphire replied to herself as the other SilverHawks gathered round her. Chatterbox and TallyHawk came by as well. "You did great, buddy." Sapphire said to Chatterbox.
"Naturally," Chatterbox said in his normal voice. "It's a gift."
"What in Limbo happened?" SteelHeart asked. "When we got here, the Limos were taking off and Mon*Star was acting furious."
"I'll explain later, Sir," Sapphire replied saluting. "Corporal Sapphire and Spy Bird Chatterbox reporting for duty, Sir." The SilverHawks greeted their new member eagerly and the whole team went off.
When they got to Hawk Haven, Sapphire and Chatterbox immediately reported to Commander Stargazer.
"So, you're Sapphire," Stargazer said.
"Yes, sir." Sapphire replied.
"I believe I already met Chatterbox."
"He's state-of-the-art, sir," Sapphire explained. "Using enhanced cybernetics, Chatterbox not only has the ability to speak, but can imitate other voices as well. That's how Mon*Star's goons got confused."
"Well, I'm only naturally talented, with a little help," Chatterbox bragged.
"Just what we need," SteelWill said. "Another big mouth."
"Yeah," Bluegrass agreed. "Another--HEY! I do not have a big mouth!"
"Well, it certainly fits your hat, Cowboy!" Chatterbox said.
"Great," Bluegrass sighed. "He's a smart alec, too."
"Look who's talking," commented Hotwing.
"All right, knock it off," Stargazer ordered. "Now, Sapphire, and Chatterbox, on behalf of the galaxy of Limbo...welcome to the team."
"A pleasure to be here, sir," Sapphire replied. She had a feeling everything will turn out all for the best here.
