Slayer Hawk, Part I:
Wings of Silver, Heart of a Warrior

Kate R.

Sergeant Will Heart sat at his station at ops and looked over the readings from the latest probe into the area of Limbo Galaxy known as No Man’s Land.  He was beginning to realize that his sister and the lieutenant would ignore the commander’s warning to stay out of that place.  Not even Mon*Star went near that place willingly.  Will looked at the star charts just as another spike of pain stabbed behind his eyes.  Will had no idea what the headaches were caused by but they were painful.  He was familiar with the headaches because he’d had them for most of his childhood.  He stared out the window before he stood and went to the hangar. He was supposed to be off duty now but the others were all in the rec-room and his sister had asked him to take her shift.  Will had no interest in a lot of what the others thought of as fun.

Will was more the fine arts and book type. The type of music he liked was prevalent on 20th century Earth.  He liked jazz and soft rock and some country.  He also liked musicals.  Will stared out into the Limbo night and suddenly felt another spike of pain.  He swallowed it took off in the direction it was worst when he faced.  Will had noticed that each time he got one of these headaches that a body or victim of the mysterious bloodsuckers was found the next day.  Will hoped that if he followed the pain to where it was most intense he might be able to do something about it.

Half a mile beyond Mon*Star’s fortress on Brim*Star, the pain intensified.  Will turned and shot towards it.  He saw a space drifter on an asteroid being attacked by...something.  “Jesus, what is that?”  Will asked himself.  He didn’t bother to find out.  He turned and headed towards it.  Will was a SilverHawk and their job was to protect the inhabitants of Limbo Galaxy.  Will slammed into the thing hard and they both went down on the ground in the dirt. The thing turned and bared fangs at him.  When it reached out to swat him, Will ducked.  It looked surprised that he could duck its swipe.  It looked at him long and hard before it tried to attack him again. The fight turned into what looked like a scene from a wrestling match but Will kept on fighting it.  He knew he didn’t know enough about the thing to win but maybe he could drive it away from it’s intended victim.

“Over here,” a voice called.  Will turned and saw a girl with long, honey-blond hair pulled into a braid.  Will pushed the vampire in her direction.  He saw a piece of wood in her hand and watched as she shoved the wood into the thing. Will watched in amazement as it turned into dust.  He realized as it the dust fell to the ground that his headache was gone.  Will stared at her for a minute before realizing what she had done.

“I’d ask how you did that if I thought I’d even remotely understand the answer,”  he said to her.  She grinned at him and laughed.

“I’d ask how you knew where it was if I didn’t already know part of the answer.  So how did you find it?”  she asked him.  Will shook his head at her gumption and sat down on one of the rocks.  He regarded her silently for a few minutes before he decided to trust her.

“I followed the intensity of the headache,” he told her. “I seem to get them just before a new victim is found.  I decided to follow it tonight.”   The girl watched him pick up a few stones and toss them across the asteroid.  He had a pretty good range.

“You must have been a hell of a passer to throw like that,” she said to him.  “You also seem to be pretty strong.”

“Played sports of one kind or another for my entire life,” he told her.  “Not that I had all that much fun doing it.  So, what exactly was that and how did a piece of wood kill it?”

“Well, IT was a vampire and you can kill them by either shoving a piece of wood through where ever the heart is or you can chop the heads off.  How about what you’re doing out here without back up?”  she asked him.  Will shrugged and avoided looking into her eyes.

“Others were off duty.  I felt another headache and decided to test my theory.  It got worse the closer I got to this place,” he told her. “I never figured I was actually right about what was causing the headaches.  Is the space drifter okay”  The girl nodded at him and sat down next to him.

“So, big boy, what’s your name?”  she asked.  Will looked at her like she was crazy.  Or like he didn’t get what she was saying to him.

“My name is Will.  Actually Steel Will but if you hear my sister it’s Iron Heart,” he told her. Jenny looked at him in surprise.

“Your sister calls you Iron Heart?”  she asked him.  Will looked confused by her anger.

“Uh, yeah.  When she’s being nice,” he told her.  ”What’s your name?”  he asked her a little uncertainly.  She grinned again and stuck out her hand.

“I’m Jenny MacLeod.  I live out here in No Man’s Land.  You’ve been by it a few times I’m sure.”  She told him.  ”You don’t know, do you?”

“Know what?” he asked, confused.  Jenny looked at him a she picked up and tossed another rock. She caught his hand and checked the throw.

“Who you are,” she said to him.  ”Why that thing was surprised you caught  its punches and ducked the ones you couldn’t catch.”

“Guess I don’t,” he said.  ”I’m nobody special, Jenny MacLeod, just a really strong guy.  My sister is the gifted one.”

“Your sister isn’t as gifted as you are Will.  You are the Slayer.  You can beat the crap out of a vampire if you have too.  Which you do, considering that this little Galaxy is infested with the blood sucking bastards,”  Jenny said to him emphatically.  Will shrugged and looked out towards the stars.

“If you say so, Jenny MacLeod, I’ll do what ever I have to do to get my job done.”  he told her and started to leave.  Jenny stopped him again.

”You need training Slayer-Boy,” she said.  ”That’s odd enough to be saying in and of itself cause the Slayer is traditionally a girl but it’s obvious the gods decided to go for a change. Besides these are hybrid vamps so I guess they call for industrial slayage.”

“It can’t be tonight Jenny MacLeod, I have to get back. Before the others come looking for me and find you here.  The lieutenant is really interested to know what’s in No Man’s Land.”

“That would be them now, right Will?”  she asked, pointing towards an object heading for them. “And you can call me Jenny,” she told him just before she took off.  Will waited for the Miraj to land.  His sister got out first and walked over to him.

“Are you all right?”  she asked.  ”Some Space Drifter came to Hawk Haven and said you were out here fighting something that tried to attack him.  Why didn’t you tell anyone you were going?”

“I wasn’t sure if it was anything important but I had a feeling something was out here.  I trusted an instinct,”  he told them.  Will tossed the stone he had been playing with while talking to Jenny.  He could tell by the gleam in her eye that he was dead when they got back to Hawk Haven.

“Come on, Hawks, let’s get home now,” Quick Silver said. The hawks got into the Miraj and flew home.  Will felt his sister’s ire at him through the telepathic bond they shared.  She was angry and he knew it.  He didn’t think she’d let him duck tonight and he was too tired to force the issue.  When  they landed in Hawk Haven, Will went straight to his room.  He’d just pulled a double shift before the fight with the vampire so he was wiped.

Will was awakened less than three hours later by his sister.  He let her in and stood up and waited her for to start the way she always did.

“What the hell were you thinking?”  she demanded.  ”You know better than to try something like this on your own.  God, I can’t believe you actually thought you could do anything like this on your own!”  Will stared at her impassively.  He let her keep going until she ran out of insults.

She finished her tirade with words like idiot, moron and stupid.  Will was so used to hearing it that he let it keep on going.  She finished eventually  and left his quarters.  Will sighed and sat back down.  He tensed when someone else knocked on the door. He knew after a second that it was just the commander.

“Come in,” he called.  The door opened and the commander entered the room. The commander sat across from him in one of the chairs that Will often sat in when he read.

“Long night, sergeant?”  Commander Stargazer asked.  Will nodded and laid back against the headboard of the bed.  The commander leaned forward in the chair he was sitting in.

“Did you win Will?  That’s all I want to know before I tell you to take two days off,” the commander said to him.

“Yes sir,” Will answered.  ”I won but I need training.  I only won with help from the girl with the long, blond hair.  Said I was something special.  That I could deal with the things.”  He knew he was falling asleep but he was too tired to care at the moment.

“What are the things, Will”  Commander Stargazer asked.  Will let himself fall towards the pillow as he answered.

“She said they were vampires,” he said.

“What was her name Will?  I’m just curious,” the commander asked.

“Jenny,” Will said as he fell asleep.  ”She called herself  Jenny...Mac..Leod.”

Will fell asleep then so he missed the look of shock on the Commander’s face.

Very quietly so he didn’t disturb his sleeping sergeant, Commander Stargazer left the room.  He went very quietly to his office and sat down in his chair.

“Jenny,” he thought.  ”I should have known it would be you all out here.  Take care of him for me girl.”

“We will Uncle Joe,” a voice he hadn’t heard in over six hundred years said from the doorway.  He looked up and found himself looking at the immortal twins who had ended the game.  Richie stood next to Jenny as they came to stand in front of him.  ”We always take care of our own,” Jenny said to him.  ”He’s immortal Joe, he’s already awakened and so has his sister. But he’s also the Slayer.  I’m only telling you this so we can train him without you getting  mad at him for not being here.”

“He belongs in our world now,” Richie said.  ”He needs to learn as many different weapons as he possibly can to deal with the vamps.  They have a nest here.  More and more arrive from all over the places they went to.  Some are from Earth, Sunnyhell in particular.  Others are from planets that  already had fierce, evil creatures and made hybrids with them.  He needs to understand all the ways to kill a vamp.  Your artificial sun lacks whatever it was in Earth’s sun that fried them so it’s the traditional methods or bust this war.”

“I understand, kids,” he said to them.  ”But you had better take care of him. He isn’t like the others here.”

“No shit,” Jenny said.  ”From what he said to me, he’s either really unhappy here or a masochist.”

“When will you take him?”  Commander Stargazer, who was once known as Joe Dawson, asked.  Jenny looked up for a second as if speaking to someone.

“Death and the General say three days.  Make sure he’s cleared for it.  I don’t want his sister or your lieutenant sticking their noses in our business again,” Jenny told him.  Joe remembered who Death and The General were so he nodded.

“Will Darius and Methos be training him as well”  He asked the two young immortals.  Jenny looked at Richie as if she was measuring him before she answered.

“I don’t think anybody but Darius can spar with him properly,” Jenny said to Joe.  ”He’s taller than everybody else.”

Commander Stargazer nodded and watched Jenny sit on his desk.  ”You can find us in No Man’s Land Joe,” she said to him.  ”It’s where we’ve been for the last few hundred years.”

“I figured it was something like that.  How many different blades are you all using out there?”  he asked her.  Jenny grinned and leaned over towards him.

“We all have been cutting them up.  And the ones that are ripped apart? That’s Jim.  Something in them sets his primal mind on overdrive.  His and Blair’s pets help too.  For some reason, the Spirit Guides have a physical presence here.”  Joe smiled at them and watched as Jenny picked up his picture of all of them at the bar before the Sladian War.  Christmas 2009, just before they went to Darius for help with the aliens.

”I’ll see you in three days when you pick him up then,” he told her. “I hope to see you all more often now that I know where you are.”

“Sure, Uncle Joe,” Jenny said.  ”You’re always welcome to come see us.” Jenny walked over to the window and looked out.  She seemed to be looking at something.  ”Uncle Joe,” she said.  ”Is there any chance he could come with us when he gets up?”

“I don’t see why not, Jenny,” he said to her.  ”Why though?”  Jenny looked out the window again.

“I think it would be for the best that’s all,” she said. He easily heard a truth dodge but knew better than to press.  Jenny had learned from the master of lies how to dodge an issue.

“Do you want me to get him now?”  he asked knowing, something was bothering Jenny.  ”I’m sure he’d go with you now if you think it’s important.”  Jenny looked at Richie who nodded.  He felt whatever Jenny had felt and was determined to do whatever his sister needed to help her.

“Yeah Uncle Joe,” she said.  ”If you don’t mind.  Rich and me and the Death and The General are all here.  Death and The General are waiting outside.  We brought The General’s spare bike for him.”

Commander Stargazer stood to leave his office when something struck him.   ”How did you two get in here?”  He asked curiously.  They both grinned as Jenny produced a lock-pick from her pocket.

“The same way that Methos, Grayson and me got into that monastery all those years ago to get the abbot when he left the barge for hurting Darius and threatening him that day,” she said.  He laughed and then headed down to Will’s quarters.  Jenny and Richie followed him down to the room where he very quietly went in and woke his sergeant up.  Will was somewhat disoriented as he looked around at the people in his room.  He looked at the commander, confused.

“Did I oversleep sir?”  he asked.  The commander shook his head.

“No, you didn’t, Will,” he said.  ”This is Jenny.  I think you know her.  She’s here to take you to a place where you can get trained to deal with the vampires. I’ve approved it so all you need to do is pack a bag of clothes and books to take with you.”  Will nodded and got up.  He packed two bags with only what he considered essentials and then followed the trio down to the hanger where two men with motorcycles were waiting.

“That one is yours until Connor gets you one built.  Its his spare,” Jenny said to Will while gesturing to a man that the commander recognized as Darius.

Will nodded at him and got on the bike after Jenny showed him where to stow his gear.  He looked at the commander and smiled.

“I take it there is a story behind how you know them” Will asked.  The commander nodded and Will smiled again.  ”I guess I’ll have to wait for it,” he said as Jenny, Richie and the two men whose names he didn’t have yet started their bikes.  Will knew how to ride one but it wasn’t his best skill.

Jenny grinned once they were gone out of Hawk Haven’s scanner range. “This is Darius and Methos,” she told him.  ”They’re going help train you to use your gifts. Believe me when I say they are both good.  Darius will be your main sparring partner because he’s your height about.”  Will nodded and enjoyed the ride to wherever they were going. About twenty minutes later they came to a cluster of asteroids.  There was one huge one in the center and several smaller ones around it.

“This is home for awhile,” Jenny said to him.  Will nodded and eased the bike down.  Jenny could tell that he enjoyed the ride.  Something that she suspected he didn’t do often; enjoy something.  Richie came over to them after conversing briefly with Darius.

“Jenny,”  he said to his sister.  “Dar wants him to have his own space.  He says that our new trainee needs it.  He also said something about being surprised that Will didn’t react to the buzzes. It’s almost like he’s used to them.”

“He might be, Richie,” Jenny told him.  ”His sister is immortal as well and so are the others, but they haven’t awakened so they’re just pre-immies.  Uh, Richie, is it me or does he seem familiar?  I could swear we’ve met him before but I don’t know from where.”   Richie looked at his twin sister and then at their new trainee.  She was right, there was something familiar about him but Richie couldn’t place it either.  Will was looking at them the same way but he looked as if he wasn’t sure he was allowed to ask.

“Hey, Jen,” Richie said again.  ”Why did you insist on us bringing him here now?  Darius said it could wait.”

“Because, Richie,” Jenny answered.  ”Something about that place rubbed me wrong.  It was almost like he really didn’t belong there.  Also something he said while we were talking in the asteroid before I called you three.”

“What was it?”  Richie asked his twin.

“When I asked him his name he said it was Will. Steel-Will if you went by his call sign and if you listened to his sister it was Iron Heart,” she told him with a dark look.  ”He believes her too, Rich, which is I wanted him out of there as soon as possible. Get it?”

“Got it Jen,” Richie said.  “So our first order of business is to fix his self-image?” Jenny gave a decisive nod and walked over to where Darius was talking with Will.  Will smiled at something Darius said so Jenny knew their job wasn’t hopeless.

“Hey,” Jenny said to him.  Will looked up at her and tried smiling again. “What do you think of the place?”   she asked.  Will looked around at their surroundings and then back at Jenny.

“It’s peaceful from what I can see so far,” He told her. Jenny smiled and pointed to a small asteroid near a group of others similarly sized.

“Come on,” she said to him.  ”I’ll show you where you can stow your gear.” Will picked up the two bags and followed her.  She led him to a bridge like thing that connected the smaller asteroids to the larger ones.

“When you get to advanced acrobatics which Amanda will teach you, you won’t need the ladders and stuff.  Uncle Joe gave us your file so I know you are already in excellent physical shape and that you are a fast learner so training you to fight vamps and evil immortals shouldn’t be hard,” Jenny said to him.
“Am I immortal like you and the others?”  Will asked her just to be sure he was following her correctly.  Jenny grinned at him and nodded.

“That buzz you feel when you get around your sister is the immortal buzz.  You get it around us too.  She’s immortal too but training her can wait.  You’re the one whose skills are needed desperately,” she told him.  Will nodded accepting the words she told him. He had decided on the way here that if the skills Jenny told him he had were needed then he would develop them and use them for whatever purpose they were needed for.

The next few Limbo Years, which were the equivalent of two Earth months, went by quickly for Will.  He spent a lot of time on honing his older skills to perfection and learning new skills and then honing them to the same razor edge that his older skills were honed to.  Will spent time learning other things, too.

From Jenny and Richie he learned that most siblings did not brow beat their younger siblings the way his sister did.  From Darius, he learned how to expand what he already knew of military strategy to encompass a lot of other things.  From Methos he learned to appreciate beer and other alcoholic beverages that Darius and Methos brewed.  From Grayson, he learned to be utterly ruthless when fighting vampires and other evil things.  From Darius and Willow, he learned to use his telepathic powers and other gifts to call magic.  They also taught him Wicca and he practiced it like the others did. From Jim Ellison and Blair Sandburg he learned the concept of recognition  and soulmates.  Those two had been partners in every sense of the word for more than seven hundred years.  From Connor MacLeod, he learned that SilverHawk armor was exo-skeletal.  Connor had removed it for him so he was lighter. He needed the weight to be replaced with slayer weapons and any other thing he could come up with to kill vampires. Connor had come up with a few new toys for him and he’d designed a few on his own.  From Duncan MacLeod, he’d  learned the finer arts of swordsmanship. Will used a sword not unlike Darius’ but thanks to what he’d learned from each person, he could do a kata with it. He also meditated with Darius a lot.

Will had learned a lot from his teachers, all right.  One of the many things that they had all taught him was that he had worth as a person.  Amanda was the best teacher in that regard.  After she’d taught him how to do some very hard acrobatics and gymnastics, she’d set to work on convincing him that he was as worthy of consideration as his sister. Will at first had been unconvinced about what they all told him but he was pretty sure now that they were telling the truth.

He still wondered if maybe he had a soul mate somewhere though.  Sometimes  he was very lonely.  Had been even before he’d left Hawk Haven.

“Will,” Amanda said from behind him.  Will turned around to look at her.  He still wouldn’t look her in the eye.  He wouldn’t look any of them in the eye because he was told many times in his life not to.  Jim had asked Jenny who the people who had told him these things and shattered his belief in himself as a person were.  Will had asked Jim why he wanted to know and Blair had told him it was because Jim was the tribe’s protector and since Will was now a member of that tribe, Jim wanted to punish the people who had hurt him.  Blair had explained to Will that Jim was a Sentinel, a man with enhanced senses  and he had been one before becoming immortal.  So Will didn’t feel completely weird now.

“What’s up Amanda?”  he asked the thief as she sat down next to him effectively ending his brooding session for the day.  Amanda leaned over and laid her head on his shoulder.  She had mentioned a few times to him that his shoulders were very comfortable to lean on.

“Look into my eyes, please,” she said to him. Will slowly shook his head no. Amanda caught his chin in her hand rubbed the beard stubble.  He’d been shaving regularly since the armor came off.  Amanda forced his head up even though he kept his eyes averted.

“Please, Will?”  she pleaded, “I’ve never seen your eyes up close.  Even Jim has never seen your eyes and he can usually see anything he wants to.  Please?  I’d really, really like to see what color your eyes are.”

Will sighed and figured she wouldn’t leave him alone until he did what she asked.  This was one of her ways of making him accept something they told him. Very slowly he lifted his head and focused his eyes on Amanda.  He felt a strong pull as he looked into her green eyes.  The pull became more as she touched his cheek.

“It IS you,” she said breathlessly.  ”I’d hoped it might be because I’ve waited a long time to find you.”

Will leaned his head down for her because Amanda was pulling him down.  He had no idea what had just happened but whatever it was it had given him the most incredible feeling of love and peace he’d ever had.  Amanda grinned slyly at him as she reached up to cup the back of his head with her hand.  Will felt a spark of ..something shoot between them just before their lips met for the first time.  The kiss was tender and a promise of something more when they were ready for it. Will realized just before Amanda led him to his asteroid/home that she was his soul mate. He realized that the feeling of peace came from being whole for the first time in his life.  Amanda had blocked the background noise from the joining and reinforced the lock that was on the bond with his sister so she couldn’t bother him here.  Connor had put that up with the help of Darius.

”Welcome to recognition, beloved,” she said as she kissed him again.  This one was more a staking of claim.  Will returned it in full measure and he felt Amanda grin against his chest when she lowered her head to rest against him before they went any further in the completing the bond being forged between them.

“Duncan was right,” she said at last.  ”My type is the peaceful, law abiding type.  But I’m afraid I’m going to corrupt you a little.”

“Corrupt me then, Amanda.  I’m not fighting it or you,” he replied.  Amanda giggled and then proceeded to do just that.

Several hours later, Amanda and Will came down and joined the others for dinner.  Duncan hugged Amanda tightly.  ”I told you he was out there Amanda,” he said to her.  ”Take care of each other.”
Duncan’s recognized, a girl named Michelle, grinned at Amanda. Will knew  that she had once been Amanda’s student.  Will was no longer any one’s student because he’d bested even Darius in fighting.  Darius was considered on of the best.  Methos was good too.  It had taken Will awhile to defeat either of them.

Will was also a full member of what his new family called the Joining.  He could reach any of them telepathically and they could reach him the same way.  Will had decided after the first day being linked to them all that he liked the connection without the hostility he felt from his sister.  He enjoyed the Joining so much because for the first time in his life, he felt like he had a home, that he belonged.

Will still wondered why he felt as if he knew Jenny and Richie.  He couldn’t figure it out but he was almost sure he knew them from somewhere….

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX
XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Jenny MacLeod watched Will from across the table.  She almost had the answer to why he was so familiar to her and Richie.  She was glad he was with Amanda because she knew that if anyone could fix his lousy self-image it was the thief.  Jenny had wondered more and more this week why she felt the urge to call him either “Billy” or “Big Bro”.  Jenny had no idea where the inclination came from but she knew there had to be a reason for it.  Richie was the same way. He was almost itching to say what came to his mind.

Late that night while Will and Amanda were sleeping, Will was suddenly hit with a bombardment of memories that he’d suppressed ruthlessly years ago because they kept getting him into trouble.  The images were of something he’d been told had not been real: He, Emily and the others.  Always placed together in foster care and always trying to protect the others from badness.

He remembered only flashes about them.  The younger set of twins was like  him and his sister: One boy one girl.  He only vaguely remembered what had happened, why they were separated but he felt if he could just remember more he’d see.  The dream changed suddenly and he was seeing things from the adult-he’d-become’s perspective.  He listened to what he yelled as the men in green uniforms had grabbed him and Emily.  Suddenly he realized why it was him and Emily they were trying to grab.  The reason being that He had pushed the smaller children out of the way.

“Jen-Jen, Rich,” he muttered in his sleep.  He remembered telling them not  to come out until momma came home and then a blow to the back of his head. Amanda had awakened at the first sign of the nightmare. She’d seen this once before in Darius when he’d lost a part of his memory and Jenny had  desperately tried to fix it.  The memories came back as nightmares.  Amanda looked up as Jenny and Richie were suddenly near the bed.  She realized that either Will had called them or they must have sensed it. It was Richie who touched him though.

“Wake up, Billy.  We’re safe,” Richie said to Will.  Amanda watched him jerk upright from whatever had caused the dream. Either that or he’d heard  Richie, which totally amazed her.  Will looked at them blankly for a minute before Richie and Jenny both grabbed him.

“We’re safe, Big brother,” Richie said.  ”We did what you said.  We didn’t come out until Emily Ryan came home.”

“They told me you weren’t real,” was all Will said.  Jenny hissed in anger.

“We’re real enough, Billy,” she said.  ”Rich and me are very real as you can no doubt see.  Come on, let’s go talk some and get you something to drink. That had to be one hell of a nightmare to pull me and Richie in.”

“Sorry,” Will said.  Jenny shook her head in frustration.

“Do not apologize,” she said forcefully.  ”We’ve been having this weird sense of deja vu ever since we met you together.  You are the missing piece of the puzzle although why Emmy turned into such a bitch I don’t know.  But we’ll fix her or let her go on her own.”

Will nodded and let them pull him up and down to the main asteroid.  He was wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt and so they went into the kitchen of the main asteroid and had some of Darius’ special brew.  The old general/priest  joined them a few minutes later and measured out how much each of them drank.
“None of you need hangovers and Jenny pulled the mead out,” was what he said by way of explanation.  Will just nodded and so the five of them because  Amanda had also joined them began to talk.  Jenny and Richie told Will about their lives and he told them about his.  He was angry about what child services had allowed to happen to them and they were pretty pissed about what Emily had done to him and about the headaches he had lived with all the time they’d lived in a small town called Sunny Dale being ignored. Jenny knew what they had been caused by too.  Will had always been a Slayer. Jenny suspected that if she called Buffy about a boy who lived in Sunny Dale about 14 years ago then she might get an answer as to why the kidnappers moved.  If the headaches that Will complained about were serious enough, then they would have had to have moved to keep them from getting worse.

Jenny swore to the gods that she would kick Emily’s ass herself when they finally met face to face.  She thought what Will had told her was bad before she knew they were related, now that she knew, it was worse.  Jenny and  Richie sat up with Will most of the night and Jim touched the joining saying he and Blair would take the day patrol so that the three of them could get some sleep.  By now most of the joined knew what had happened last night.  They were all pretty supportive considering that they barely knew Will.

Will woke up several hours later with Amanda wrapped around him.  He knew she must have been trying to keep any more nightmares away although Will figured that they were gone now that he had remembered what they were.  ”Hey lover,” Amanda said when she realized he was awake.  ”Connor has some new toys for  you to look at. Want to go have a look at them before we go out on patrol?”

“That would be fine Amanda,” he replied as he got up and pulled on jeans and a t-shirt.  The two immortals went down to what was affectionately called Connor’s Work Shop or as Jenny called it, “Uncle Connor’s Room of Vampire Doom”.  Connor beckoned them in upon seeing them in the doorway. He picked up a couple of guns and some new shuriken that were lying on the table.

“Made some improvements on the gun blueprints you gave me,” the elder highlander said in his raspy voice.  ”I gave the scope a longer range and increased the intensity of the U.V. beams.  It should fry any vamps you hit with it to ash.  This,” Connor said as he picked up the second gun, “Fires wooden point bullets. It will be good for taking distance shots.  This too has a scope although Jenny and Jim say that you may not need one the way you aim.  The shuriken are blessed by the tradition we all follow here.  They  can slow down vamps or demons.  Although as strong as you are you may be able to dust a vamp if you aim for the heart.  I’m working on the guns that can take out demons with Derek’s help we should have a working design soon.  You have the crossbows and hand stakes as well as your sword so you should be okay tonight.  I’ll try to get those guns ready for you a soon as possible.”

“Thanks Connor,” Will said as he looked at the weapons Connor had made for him.  Will was surprised that they would go to the trouble of making new weapons for him. He’d been surprised by the new clothes let alone the weapons and stuff.  Of course, Amanda convincing him to let Darius pierce his ear was when he realized that he was changing into the Slayer they all kept telling him he was marked a big step in the changes he was undergoing both inside and outside.  Today, he was wearing the gold hoop that Amanda had bought for him down on Bedlama. It was his favorite of all the earrings that she had made for him.  Connor was a blacksmith so he would make the earrings out of castoff metal from what he made for Will to use.  But they were always to Amanda or Jim’s design.  Amanda had them made for him and Jim had them made for Blair.  Will went to put on his Slayer Outfit that consisted of black jeans, a gray t-shirt, black boots, fingerless black gloves, a black leather jacket  although tonight it was the leather trench coat he picked up. He pulled his black sunglasses on too because it was summer in Limbo Galaxy and so it was  lighter longer. Will also pulled on his many and varied slayage weapons.  Darts, stakes, the new guns and their ammo belts that Connor made for him to hold more stuff, the shuriken that went under his collar and on his sleeves and the sword that he slipped into the hidden pocket of the coat. In the boots and on his wrists were two knife sheaths that held the bane of the demon world, silver bladed knives.  Attached to the ammo belt were his hand stakes and the holy water/garlic pellets and a small can of holy water mace.  Will walked down to the garage where his motorcycle waited.  He figured that when Jim and Blair got in an hour before, they must have pulled his and Amanda’s bikes up to go. The wooden blowgun and wooden darts were put on the bike with the crossbow that Will used sometimes.  He folded the coat across the saddle of the bike and then went up to dinner.  Amanda pulled his hair back into a ponytail and then slipped a wooden boomerang into his belt.  Will knew that the boomerang was bladed.
As Will took his seat at the table, he watched Jim and Blair shuffle in.  They looked tired but seemed quite happy to have done the day patrol.  Their Spirit Guides followed them into the dinning room and flopped down by the fire.  Jim looked at Blair and grinned at him.

“Glad you feel better,” Jim said.  Will nodded and smiled his thanks to them for giving him the day off.  They in turn smiled at him understandingly.  Will watched Jim ruffle Blair’s hair as the smaller man sat down nearly in his lap. Will always liked watching them. Jim was very affectionate with Blair. He liked to play with what he called Blair-Hair.  Will watched them eat their dinner.  Amanda put her hand on his shoulder and he looked up at her.  She smiled down at him.

“We have that, Will,” she told him lovingly.  ”We have forever, we have love, and we have time to be what Jim and Blair are.”

Will smiled at her as she brushed a kiss across his fore head. He felt her gentle hug and knew she would make sure that they did indeed eventually have what Jim and Blair had. Will looked up suddenly as Jenny called him through the Joining.  He watched as Darius came into the room with her.  Darius usually ate alone or some reason.  Jenny told Will it was a holdover from his days as a monk.  Will waited until they came to where he was sitting before he stood up.  Darius looked at Jenny and nodded.  She was grinning about something. “Okay,” she said.  ”Uh, I guess we should start with the fact  that immortals can have kids and move onto why the four of us were always placed together.”  Will looked at her blankly.  Jenny went on finally.

“Okay, the reason we were always placed together was because we, the four of us, really were related.  We all have the same mother and father.  This is our father.”

Will looked at Darius doubtfully until the bigger man reached out and  touched his mind.  He smiled gently.  Will, I can you tell you aren’t sure if this is true but have we ever lied to you?

Will shook his head no as Darius sat down next to him.

You get your general build and height from me.  My Gods, do you ever look like I did when I was going through my less than peaceful stage.

I do? Will asked uncertainly through the Joining. Grayson looked at the group and walked over to them.
You do, little brother.  You most definitely do, Grayson told him.  Will looked from Grayson back to Jenny who nodded.

“Grayson is our eldest brother.  As in he has 1,400 years on either of us.   He had a twin brother but Kenny was just evil and had to die.  He had no  emotion and he tried to kill dad and Anya, who you haven’t met yet.  Anya accepted his challenge and won the fight.  We all knew it had to be done but it was something dad didn’t want any of us to have to do.  He would have done it himself but Kenny..”

“..Shot him,” Will finished.  ”Don’t worry Jen-Jen, I do understand.  I don’t blame Anya and I’m glad to finally meet dad.”  Will let Darius hug him tightly and smiled against his shoulder.  He felt like he was home and wanted for the first time in his life.

After dinner, Will and Amanda stood and headed down to the hanger to pick up their bikes.  They headed off the asteroid fully armed for a confrontation with vampires or whatever faced them that night.  Will seemed to be the most comfortable he’d ever been on patrol and Amanda suspected it had to do with finally knowing he had a family.  Amanda watched to gold hoop glimmer in his ear and she smiled. That one and the sword earring really fit him.

As they drove through Limbo’s By-Ways near the Artificial Sun, Will  stiffened and turned his bike to the right.  Amanda followed him to where there was a plane of some kind being attacked by vamps.

“Damn!” Will said emphatically.  He knew that ship and the pilot who was being attacked.  Will wondered why Blue Grass was out alone. He knew the commander, who was known to his new family/team as Joe Dawson, knew better than to send any one out alone.  Will sighed and decided to figure it out later.  He pulled the gun fired the wooden pointed bullets and fired it.  He nailed six out of twelve before the vampires shifted their focus to him.  Will pulled two stakes and jumped into the thick of them.  The vampires didn’t last long against him.  He staked all six of the ones left and was covered in vampire dust before he finished.  Will looked down at the shell shocked pilot before he jumped back from the plane to his bike.

“Are you all right, Tex?”  He asked concerned.  The pilot looked up at him in

shock.  He was surprised when he saw who saved his life.  Will watched his jaw drop and his eyes get big before he let him off.

“Easy Tex,” Will told him.  “It’s just me.”

“W-W- Will” he said in shock.  Will nodded and sat down on the wing next to him.  Blue Grass looked at him and Will knew he was cataloging everything about him that was different.  Finally Blue Grass got over his shock and the questions started.  “Where have you been for the last few years and why are you out here?”

“Slow down Tex,” Will told him.  ”I promise I’ll tell you.”

Blue Grass subsided and waited patiently for the explanation.

“For one Tex,” Will began.  ”I’ve only been gone for a few earth months.  I’m not on Limbo time.  Secondly I’ve been learning things for the time I’ve been gone. Thirdly, I’m out here fighting things like the one’s the just attacked you.  Lots of the blood- sucking bastards out here.”  Blue Grass looked at him in confusion.

“What else you been learning, Will?”  he asked.  Will looked at him amused.

“Hmm, I’ve learned that the Silver Hawk armor is completely exo-skeletal. Two, I’ve learned that the Silver Hawks are never going to win against the Mob if they don’t take the kid gloves off, third, Oh, yeah, I’m married.”

Blue Grass’ jaw dropped again when he caught sight of Amanda as she brought Will’s bike over to him.  Amanda leaned over and kissed Will on the lips.

“Meet my wife, Tex,” Will said to him.  Blue Grass nodded in surprise.  He noticed that Will was preparing to leave.

“You ever coming back Will?” Blue Grass asked him.  Will looked at him and shook his head.

“I don’t think so, Tex.  I’m happy where I am.  Besides I’ve discovered that I don’t belong there anymore.”

“The commander knows, don’t he?” Blue Grass asked as he began to get the picture.  Will nodded and got onto his motorcycle.

“Head home now and be sure none of you go out alone again. I don’t want to run into my sister again.  I’m afraid of what might happen if I do.”

“You know, she’s going to be mad about this, right? She’s been right pissy since you left.”

“Her problem, Tex,” Will said to him.  ”Not mine.  See you around the galaxy Tex and remember what I said.”

Will and Amanda left him there and headed back to No Man’s Land.  Blue Grass headed for Hawk Haven understanding that Will was trusting him not to  follow.

He knew he couldn’t dishonor that trust so he went home. He’d talk to the commander when he there.
“It’s your life.  Will,” Blue Grass thought to himself. “Life it well.”

The End, for now.
